Honey Bee Illustrations

Our kindergarten crew has been "busy as bees" working on their drafts of honey bees. As experts we want to make sure that we are looking closely at all the various parts of a honey bee. So far these are some of our third drafts.

Students have been learning an insect chant to aid in their understanding of the parts of a honey bee.

INSECT CHANT
(For all parts, students will echo the teacher.)
TEACHER: All insects!
STUDENTS: All insects!

TEACHER: Have 3 parts!
STUDENTS: Have 3 parts!

TEACHER: The head, the thorax, the abdomen!
STUDENTS: The head, the thorax, the abdomen!

TEACHER: The legs and wings are on the thorax! (clap)
STUDENTS: The legs and wings are on the thorax! (clap)

TEACHER: Six legs in all!
STUDENTS: Six legs in all!

TEACHER: And that's the way it is!
STUDENTS: And that's the way it is!

Curious Critters Around Us

Hello Kindergarten Crew Members!

We are getting ready to become experts in the field of some curious critters that live around us! Each of our fellow kindergarten crews will become experts on their own critter as well! After we become experts, we will get to teach our other kindergarten crew friends all that we have learned and they will teach us what they have learned too! I can’t wait!
You will become experts on this special critter and its role in our community. This critter can have an impact on goods and services in our community and the world at large. In our study, you will learn how this critter is a major pollinator and without them our food supply will diminish as well as our economy.
So…I was wondering…..can you guess what we will be studying?
You will each be given a photo puzzle piece. Look closely at the detail of your puzzle piece and find other crew members that have similar pieces. Work together as a group to glue your pieces together on construction paper. Take a look at your image and collaborate with your team to see if you can guess what our case study will be about. We will then tape all photo puzzles to the wall and talk about what our critter might be!!
